Just like Harry Potter, Eastbourne businesswoman Nicky McCrudden started from a small space in under the stairs – and uses magic on her training courses.

Nicky, director of McCrudden Training, has continued to develop her business and on Wednesday (6 October) celebrated her move to a new office and training suite at the Dental Practice Board Conference Centre, Eastbourne.

“As Harry Potter fans know, he was locked in a cupboard under the stairs. I started my business from a desk in a small space under the stairs – although I wasn’t locked in! When Harry finds out he’s a wizard he gets his own bedroom. When I realised my business had potential, I got a bedroom as an office. Now I’m delighted to have moved into Eastbourne premises with a training suite. Harry does magic – and if you’re lucky on a McCrudden Training course I might weave in some magic too,” says Nicky.

Eastbourne MP Stephen Lloyd and local business leaders were among the guests at Nicky’s event which included the launch of McCrudden Training’s first Directory of Services.

“We’ve grown from a ‘Harry Potter’ type business to a profitable enterprise providing high quality and exceptional training and consultancy services to the voluntary sector and local businesses,” adds Nicky.

In August she gave up her part time job as a senior NHS manger to concentrate on her growing business. This has included organising the second south east regional conference for volunteer managers.

McCrudden Training offers statutory, personal development, leadership/ management training, consultancy, and coaching.

“We already work with a wide range of local and national partners, such as Volunteering England, the Institute of Sports Parks and Leisure, and the local NHS. We are looking forward to continuing to invest in Eastbourne by developing the next generation of the local workforce and attracting delegates from outside the area,” adds Nicky.
